Nick Cody
My musical journey began in 1975, busking in Guildford city centre, UK, under my given name before adopting the stage name Nick Cody. Armed with a worn Kay acoustic guitar, I performed cover songs from my favourite artists of the era, earning approximately £3 per hour. This income was significant at the time, as vinyl albums retailed for under £2.50, allowing me to expand my music collection. The 1970s were a defining period for me, deeply influenced by the singer-songwriter movement. Albums such as Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s 4 Way Street, Tom Waits’ Closing Time, and Bob Dylan’s Blood on the Tracks were constant inspirations. These records, with their compelling lyrics and memorable melodies, continue to resonate with me over four decades later, shaping my enduring appreciation for music centred on strong song writing and timeless tunes. In 2000, I transitioned to composing world and ambient music, contributing to various media projects. Notably, my work was featured in television and radio productions, including the award-winning Channel 4 short film My Amersham. This marked a significant milestone in my career, blending my passion for music with professional creative endeavours.
